SnapScreens Support
Version 1.0
SnapScreens is a professional macOS screen recording app with mouse/cursor visualization, multiple output formats, and support for displays, app windows, NDI sources, and USB devices.
Getting Started
When you first launch SnapScreens, you'll need to grant a few permissions:
- Screen Recording — Required to capture your display or app windows. Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Screen Recording and enable SnapScreens.
- Camera — Required for USB device capture (e.g., iPhone mirroring). Go to System Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
- Microphone — Optional, for recording system or microphone audio alongside your screen capture.
- Local Network — Optional, for discovering NDI video sources on your network.
You can check and manage all permissions from the Settings window (gear icon or Cmd+,).
Recording Sources
SnapScreens supports four types of recording sources:
- Displays — Capture your entire screen, including all windows and the desktop.
- App Windows — Capture a single application window without other screen content.
- NDI Sources — Discover and select NDI video sources on your local network (requires NDI Tools runtime).
- USB Devices — Capture from connected iOS devices via USB (e.g., iPhone screen mirroring).
Use the filter chips at the top of the Recording tab to show or hide each source type.
Output Formats
SnapScreens supports multiple output formats:
- H.264 — Standard compressed video, great for sharing and uploading.
- ProRes 422 — High-quality intermediate codec for professional editing.
- ProRes 4444 XQ — Highest quality with alpha channel support.
- GIF — Animated GIF export for quick demos and social sharing.
Mouse Visualization
SnapScreens can overlay a visual highlight on your cursor during recording, making it easy for viewers to follow along. Customize the highlight color, size, and style in the Visualization tab.
SnapScreens Pro
SnapScreens Pro unlocks the full feature set with a monthly ($3.99/month) or yearly ($24.99/year, ~48% savings) subscription. Both plans include a 1-month free trial.
- Subscriptions auto-renew unless canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Manage or cancel your subscription in the App Store under your account settings.
- See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service for more details.
Troubleshooting
- No sources showing up? Make sure Screen Recording permission is granted in System Settings. You may need to restart SnapScreens after granting permission.
- iPhone not detected? Ensure your iPhone is connected via USB, unlocked, and that you've tapped "Trust" on the device. Camera permission must also be granted.
- NDI sources not appearing? Check that Local Network permission is granted and that NDI-enabled devices are on the same network.
- Recording stops unexpectedly? Check available disk space. ProRes recordings can be very large.
System Requirements
- macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later
- Apple Silicon or Intel Mac
